About Me

Westcountry Native

I was born in Plymouth and have lived in various corners of Devon and Somerset. I have accumulated a mass of favourite places, pubs, hotels and historical facts (and not-so-historical fancies) which I would love to share with you.

I spent 35 years as a lawyer working with clients, counterparties and colleagues from all over the World. I have always been fascinated by their stories of who they are and where they are from.

Over many years of family holidays, I have travelled with my wife and children to dozens of countries and regions. We have seen the "sights", but we have also spent time off the beaten track and some of my favourite memories are of little known places we have come across - sometimes by design and sometimes by chance.

I have often supposed that people from other countries visiting England may crave the same experience but perhaps lack the time or information to plan it.

So my invitation to you is this: take a few days off from seeing the "sights" whilst you are in England and let me show you some of the secret gems of England's glorious Westcountry: ancient inns and medieval churches with tales to tell, prehistoric remains and wild places that have spawned legends, and monuments and buildings that tell you something of the people who have lived in the Westcountry over the centuries.
